Originally a french jeweler with a " Beaux Art school " background , I  immigrated to the US in 1986 and 15 years ago , as a hobby , did start restoring my own wooden boat . 3 years later , it became my main activity .

The break came in 2003 , when I was hired by the " Los Angeles Maritime Museum " as general finishing contractor for their
" Brigantine Youth Program ".  This unique multi millions dollar, 4 year project, consisted in the building of two sisterships, 140 feet long, wooden replicas of the magnificent nineteen century " Brigantine " tallships.  During this period, me and my crew performed all aspects of finishing operations including:  interior/exterior preparation & painting, wood sealing,  oil varnishing, fiberglassing, metals treatments, waterproofing,  windows sealing and decking .............

During the past 15 years we have maintained and/or restored over 200 boats, on water or at our shop in Wilmington, California , including numerous  Classic woodies  , an original  Chinese Junk, and more recent fiberglass & steel vessels.

This blog is a presentation of my work

 BEFORE                                                            AFTER

I do love mast painting ...

Just be sure , you have a good friend on the deck safety line !!!!!
I will test video editing on the site  next week .. up & down  the mast will be a good test

 the " vue " is great ... 80 ' up water

July 08 ... back to earth ..
We are starting a 1959 old Woodie .. leaking . it is normal for a wood boat to leak a little , it is good to have salt water at the bottom of your bilge , but not to much or you will sink .
Dry Rot came from fresh water infiltrations ( deck corners / windows joints .... )
In this case i will sand the hull & bottom / Smith epoxy , seal bare wood / West system all  cracks /
Epoxy primer / 3M marine filler underwater ,  minor cracks ..... & for the fun: 2 coats of Awllgrip LP.

July 10 .... more work then expected ...
 old woodies
are dangerous for the business !
